3D Metal Printer
ElemX
Innovative Technology In a User Focused Package
The world’s first liquid metal printer using aluminum wire, ElemX exemplifies simplicity and efficiency. Designed to provide manufacturers with the tools to reduce costs, eliminate long lead times, and improve part performance. KEK partnered with Xerox to establish a design language that reflected this cutting edge technology.
Refinement: Accounting for Every Detail
Tasked with establishing the design language for this innovative machine, and understanding that even the smallest details can have a large impact, our industrial designers used an iterative process while developing ElemX. Through methods such as sketching and 3D Cad modeling our team was able to look at variations in many aspects including form, lighting schemes, and surface transitions.
Model Making: From Concept to Reality
Utilizing 3D CAD files from our design team our in house model shop fabricated a full scale trade show model. Using methods like plywood construction, CNC machined panels, and heat bent plastics this trade show model was built with durability and transportability in mind. Collaboration between our design and model making teams ensured that no detail was overlooked including proper colors, materials, and finishes. This model went on to be shown at the Formnext Convention in Frankfurt Germany.
